Special Agent Robert "Bob" Levinson (RIP)

Washington, D.C. – The members of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Society) extend heartfelt condolences to all the members of the extended Levinson family, who yesterday released an anguished statement revealing that their family and the government have reason to believe that Bob passed away some time ago in Iranian custody. Society member and Special Agent Bob Levinson served for 22 years with the FBI and six years with the Drug Enforcement Administration. He traveled to Kish Island, Iran, in 2007 as an independent contractor as well to perform work related for the U.S. government. He was taken into custody by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, although that was later denied for 13 years by the Iranian government.

Bob and the Levinson family will always be part of our FBI Family. He will be remembered as a wonderful person, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will honor him forever as a dedicated FBI Agent, loyal public servant, and an American hero.

Our Society and all of our members jointly pledge today to continue to assist the Levinson family in their continued mission to bring Bob’s remains home for burial, to obtain an accounting of what truly happened to Bob from the day he was taken captive until his death, and to hold the Iran officials fully responsible for their unconscionable treatment of Bob.

We join the family in thanking all the members of the U.S. government who worked tirelessly to reunite Bob with his family. A special thank you to all of the FBI employees who worked for 13 years on this investigation with the tireless dedication that is the hallmark of the FBI.
